6+ years in BIM, taught the way real design offices work

I’m Shameer Ahamed, founder of Catalyzt Academy. I train civil engineers and architects in BIM, and I’ve spent 6+ years doing it on real projects myself.

At BIM Launchpad I model a G+5 office in Revit from scratch, live, so you can see the work for yourself before you decide whether BIM is for you.

Every job post asks for Revit and BIM. The question is, are you ready? Can you deliver? Are they on your CV?

What happens on Sunday, part by part

Five parts, a 5-minute break and a Q&A, all in IST. Everything is demonstrated live, so there is no software to install or set up.

  • 3 hours, live
  • 5 parts + Q&A
  • 1 G+5 office, from scratch
  • Questions answered in chat

Live Revit modelling · a G+5 office

  1. Levels and grids

The project is set up, then a level for every floor and the grid that fixes where everything sits.

    • A new project set up for a G+5 office
    • Levels from Ground to Level 5
    • The structural grid, lettered and numbered
  2. Columns, core walls and beams

The structure goes in: columns on the grid, the core walls through the centre and beams tying them together.

    • Columns placed at the grid intersections
    • Core walls rising through the middle
    • Beams framing between the columns
  3. Slabs

A slab goes across each level, so every floor becomes a surface you could walk on.

    • Slabs drawn to the edge of the structure
    • Thickness set by the floor type
    • One slab for every level, up to the roof
  4. Architectural walls, façade and furniture

The building gets its walls, its glass skin and its furniture, and starts to look like an office.

    • Internal walls dividing each floor
    • A glazed façade around the outside
    • Furniture placed on every floor
  5. 3D review

The finished office is reviewed in 3D and checked before it goes any further.

    • The whole model reviewed in 3D
    • Every floor checked, Ground to Level 5
